Data updates and changelog.

Substantive changes to the public data, methodology, source governance, and indexable site surface. Date-ordered, newest first.

What gets logged here

  • Logged: accepted source vintages, public dataset rebuilds, methodology changes, new data tools or page families, corrections, and source-governance changes that explain public data freshness.
  • Not logged: routine healthchecks, no-op updater runs, unresolved source scouts, internal tests, outreach work, or rebuilds that only change volatile timestamps.

Random U.S. city generator launched.

Added an indexable Census-backed random city tool at /random/. The tool uses the existing official city dataset, supports population and geography filters, exports sourced city batches, and avoids fictional city-name generation.

Data update log and source-monitoring resolution.

Added this public data-update log to the generated sitemap and documented when future agents should update it. The June monthly source scout warning was resolved in the source registry; no public city facts, CSV exports, or methodology rules changed because of that healthcheck.

Compare tools and city cost-of-living pages expanded.

Launched the indexable compare hub, budget picker, cost-of-living comparison landing, and about 50 city cost-of-living sub-pages. Pair-specific comparison URLs remain noindex; city cost-of-living pages preserve source-grain labels instead of implying one city-grain composite score.

Family-of-4 household budget and childcare layer.

Added a second household-budget composition for two working adults with two children, using DOL NDCP childcare data inflated by the BLS child-care CPI subindex, plus documented federal tax-credit handling and caveats.

ZIP-grain housing and local income-tax layers.

Expanded household-budget housing from county-grain HUD FMR to ZIP-grain SAFMR where available, and added resident local income-tax modeling for covered jurisdictions. City pages now disclose the applicable housing and tax grains.

Growth atlas percentage maps and reuse terms.

Featured the percentage-change growth map first, added percentage map crops and variants to the atlas, and clarified that Every City in the USA graphics and insights may be reused or modified under CC BY 4.0 with attribution and an online link back to the atlas.

Press campaign tracking support.

Added clean outreach redirect paths and campaign-aware analytics for public data downloads. Campaign markers are campaign-level only, not per-recipient identifiers.

Census Vintage 2025 population refresh.

Updated the official city population source to SUB-EST2025. The public CSV is now cities-v2025.csv with 19,483 cities, 2025 population, 2020–2025 within-vintage growth, updated methodology, and source hashes.

Privacy-friendly analytics added.

Self-hosted Rybbit analytics added to track aggregated page views and a small set of user actions (CSV downloads, explorer filter usage, contact form submissions). No third party sees this data; no cookies; no cross-site tracking. Privacy policy updated.
