- Metro population: Census Population Estimates Program, Vintage 2025. Released March 2026. A metropolitan statistical area groups counties around an urban core, including communities connected by commuting. Full metropolitan statistical area totals, July 1 estimates; 2020-to-2025 change starts at the April 2020 estimates base. Metro titles and state coverage follow this population release.
- Member mapping: OMB July 2023 CBSA delineations, joined through each place's largest-population county. Member assignment does not clip place populations to metro boundaries. Full consolidated governments are kept and their balances are excluded. Separately incorporated component places remain listed and can overlap the consolidated figure.
- Boundaries: Census 2025 cartographic files, generalized at 1:500,000 and clipped to shorelines. These outlines identify the geography; they are not survey boundaries. Population covers each complete county, including areas omitted by map generalization. County membership uses the same Census metro estimates, following OMB July 2023 delineations.
