Census places are broader than incorporated cities.
A legal place is an incorporated municipality or other legally defined place recognized by Census. A census-designated place (CDP) is a statistical area Census defines for a settled community that is not incorporated. CDPs are included here and labeled explicitly; they remain excluded from the separate annual PEP municipality pages.
Place type comes from the 2025 Census Gazetteer when its GEOID matches. For the 21 national ACS places that do not match that later-vintage file, classification uses the explicit legal-place or CDPsuffix in Census’s official ACS geography name; no approximate name matching is used.
Every displayed value is an ACS five-year survey estimate. The population margin of error is shown in the table, and the downloaded state slice also includes margins of error for median age and average household size. A low_precision display flag means the 90% margin of error exceeds half the estimate; it is a warning threshold, not a statistical quality grade. ACS sentinel values and unavailable estimates remain null rather than becoming zero.
